Part-Time Instructor Pool - Ecological Restoration, Environmental Horticulture
Provide quality instructions, create and maintain an environment which emphasizes teaching and learning and encourages free discussion of ideas, interests and issues. Primary duties of part-time faculty members are related to curriculum and teaching; the assignment is divided between lecture and lab classes as determined by the department. Part-time instructional faculty are required to be available to students outside of class.
Teach the SBCC course in Ecological Restoration (EH112 & EH113). Course covers the principles of ecological restoration, restoration design, planning, characterization of reference habitats, working with various governmental and other stakeholders, monitoring and restoration philosophy, ethics and history are emphasized. Both hands-on native plant propagation techniques and ecological restoration knowledge are emphasized. These courses are taught each spring, alternating between EH112 and EH113.
Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook. Master's in agriculture, agriculture science, education with a specialization in agriculture or other agricultural area (including: agricultural business, agricultural engineering, agricultural mechanics, agronomy, animal science, enology, environmental (ornamental) horticulture, equine science, forestry, natural resources, plant science, pomology, soil science, viticulture or other agriculture science) or the equivalent. Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, culture, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
