Hospitalist Scholars -Subspecialty Track

The Division of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Instructor positions in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree. Board certified/board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine is required.

Responsibilities may include nights and weekends at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, as well as limited weekend shifts at Good Shepherd Penn Partners Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH). In addition to a competitive salary and generous benefits, Scholars are eligible to receive an annual bonus, which can be applied towards loan repayment at the end of each year of clinical service completed.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to work with mentors in the sub-specialty field of their choice. Through this mentorship, scholars will gain experience and insight into the field while engaging in scholarly projects intended to result in presentations at scientific meetings or peer-reviewed publications. Additional opportunities for mentorship within hospital medicine are also available. Scholars will participate in structured career development activities, along with other junior faculty in the Division of Hospital Medicine, intended to create a solid foundation for independent practice of inpatient medicine.

This Instructor position in Hospital Medicine is a part of a unique career development program known as the Penn Hospitalist Subspecialty Scholars Program. This program is designed specifically for recent graduates of internal medicine residencies seeking a short-term (1-3 years) hospitalist position before moving on to the next phase of their career - typically a sub-specialty fellowship or secondary residency.

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE. Minorities/women/individuals with disabilities/protected veterans are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Application Instructions This application requires the submission of a Cover Letter, CV, and 3 Letters of Recommendation. At least one reference must specifically detail the candidate's potential for success in their sub-specialty field of interest, and the remaining two should be able to comment specifically about their clinical excellence (one of these should be from a residency program director, the other from a faculty member who supervised them on an inpatient rotation such as general internal medicine or intensive care unit).
