Human Resources Specialist I
Job Description
Human Resources Specialists are part of a team that promotes talent management strategies within the District. Incumbents in these positions work to support talent management goals for teachers, District administrators, and our business services workforce.
HR Specialists perform professional-level technical and analytical work in areas including classification and compensation, talent acquisition/recruitment, employment assessment and selection, staff development and training, performance management, and employee relations.
Human Resources Specialists will be involved in exciting projects that may include:
- Managing full lifecycle recruitment strategies to attract highly skilled candidates to fill diverse job classifications; identifying innovative and creative sourcing strategies to create a pipeline of high-caliber talent for LAUSD; and cultivating branding strategies to attract a highly skilled workforce.
- Consulting with business partners and identifying assessment needs to find highly skilled candidates to fill critical jobs within the District; designing and planning the administration of employment selection tools and tests; and analyzing assessment tools to ensure their validity.
- Maintaining a standardized and equitable job classification system by studying and evaluating positions within the District and accurately classifying them; determining pay in relation to both internal alignments and salaries for comparable jobs within other organizations; and providing ongoing updates of LAUSD job classification specifications.
- Conducting training needs assessments; planning, coordinating, and facilitating training and development programs; and analyzing data to determine the impact and effectiveness of training programs.
- Providing analytical support in the planning, development, implementation, and administration of performance management processes, programs, and initiatives; collecting and analyzing data relating to these programs and reporting on the findings; and developing and implementing a communication plan introducing and updating audiences about the program.
- Conducting investigations into disciplinary matters; overseeing the discipline, demotion, or dismissal process of employees; and advising others on conducting progressive discipline.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduation from a recognized college or university, preferably with a major in human resources, personnel, or public administration, or one of the behavioral sciences.
EXPERIENCE: Technical experience in employee recruitment, selection, position classification, labor relations, staff development, or salary administration is preferable.
SPECIAL: A valid driver's license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and the use of a motor vehicle, or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation.

Salary Details
$69,680.00 - $85,210.00 Yearly

Insurance: Paid premiums for your choice of several medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
Retirement: Membership in the California Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS).
Vacation: Full-time employees earn up to two weeks of paid vacation to start. Three weeks after five years of year-round paid service.
