Summary of Position
The Humanities Department at RRCC is seeking an Instructor to teach World Mythology. The Adjunct Instructor will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, fostering student engagement and critical thinking, and supporting student success in a diverse community college environment. Responsibilities include preparing and delivering course content, facilitating discussions and learning activities, assessing student performance, and maintaining accurate academic records in accordance with college policies and procedures.
This position reports to the Humanities Department Lead and the Chair of Communication, Humanities, and World Languages. The work schedule for this position may include day and evening hours, at the Lakewood, CO location. Assignments will vary by semester and modality. The position will require hours outside of the normal work schedule for preparation, grading, and student communication.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to teach and explain complex cultural and mythological traditions in an accessible and engaging way.
- Strong communication and discussion facilitation skills.
- Ability to foster inclusive classroom environments that support students from diverse cultural, social, and educational backgrounds.
- Ability to integrate critical thinking, comparative analysis, and interdisciplinary perspectives into instruction.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage course responsibilities independently.
- Ability to use learning management systems and standard instructional technology.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Humanities, Religious Studies, Mythology, Literature, Cultural Studies, Anthropology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution, OR
- Master's degree in any discipline with 18 graduate credit hours in a relevant humanities field.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success in higher education.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous teaching experience in World Mythology or related humanities courses at the college level.
- Experience teaching in multiple instructional modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, or online).
- Experience working with community college students or diverse learning populations.
- Familiarity with learning management systems such as D2L.
Physical & Cognitive Demands

- Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
- This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
- The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Advertised Pay
The pay for this position is $1,777.73 - $1,294.58 per credit hour, commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, FLSA exempt position and may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need.
This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
