Hybrid Graduate Program Coordinator
The Sage School of Philosophy and The Department of Classics offer rigorous undergraduate and graduate programs, active research, speaker series, and interdisciplinary collaboration across the university. The Sage School houses The Philosophical Review, a globally recognized journal. The Department of Classics also includes the grant-funded, interdisciplinary Lab of Dendrochronology, while a shared administrative team supports teaching, research, outreach, and numerous programs, events, and publications.
The Opportunity
The Graduate Program Coordinator supports a newly combined administrative team serving the Classics and Philosophy departments, including about 27 professorial faculty, three additional academics, over 100 undergraduate majors, and more than 50 graduate students.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary coordinator for all aspects of the graduate programs in the Department of Classics and the Sage School of Philosophy.
- Act as liaison between graduate students, faculty, the Graduate School, Directors of Graduate Studies, and the Placement Director.
- Advise current and prospective graduate students on degree requirements, funding status, professional development, wellness resources, and course scheduling.
- Interpret and apply policies and requirements for two distinct academic units, providing accurate guidance to students and faculty.
- Maintain oversight of graduate student records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with program and university policies.
- Monitor and track funding sources for PhD students, maintaining detailed records of individual funding packages.
- Conduct financial planning and run projections for future graduate student funding scenarios.
What We Need

- Associate's degree and 2-4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word) and ability to learn new software systems.
- Excellent organizational skills, reading comprehension, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Initiative and proactive follow-through on tasks to completion.
- Sound judgment when handling urgent, sensitive, or confidential matters.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
- Ability to build inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
If you have all those things, great! We have a few more things that we would prefer you to have, but it's ok if you don't.
- Experience working with Cornell University systems such as PeopleSoft, Workday, CollegeNET, and Tableau reporting tools.
- Familiarity with Cornell policies and procedures.
- Experience working with students and/or in an academic environment, particularly with graduate students.
This is a full-time (39 hours/week) Endowed College position that is based in Ithaca, NY with a hybrid work arrangement. Core hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with flexibility as needed. The final schedule will be established in collaboration with the supervisor.
