Description

WVU Libraries is seeking a Research Data Management Librarian to join its Research Support & Engagement (RSE) unit. The Research Data Management Librarian will deliver research support aimed at skill development and training, information sharing, and advocacy in research data management and sharing, locating data sources and advising on data privacy regulations and ethical considerations. Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply and specialized training is available upon hire.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead the Research Data Management and Sharing service, providing research support and education to University researchers in the following areas:
    • Research data management and sharing plans
    • Data organization
    • Metadata standards and storage options
    • Identifying data repositories for storing, preserving, archiving, and sharing research data
  • Design, implement, and assess research data management services. Including: consultations, workshops, learning and directional materials, and other instructional programming on research data management planning, organization, documentation, and preservation to meet funder requirements and best practices in line with the FAIR, CARE, and TRUST principles.
  • Identify and connect with University stakeholders engaged in or requiring engagement in research data management.
  • Assist as a subject matter expert in the humanities, social sciences, STEM, or health sciences domains, offering specialized guidance and expertise through in-depth research support services, training, and assistance with information resources.
  • Deliver comprehensive general reference assistance via on-call availability, email, and chat services.
  • Engage in professional development and/or research related to the individual's assignment and/or the needs of the Libraries and the University.
  • Serve and actively contribute to relevant committees, task forces, and working groups at the Library, University, regional, and/ or national level.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program and/or a graduate degree in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate or training in a Research Data Management program.
  • Knowledge of the research data lifecycle, research data management and sharing standards and best practices, including FAIR principles and ethical data practices.
  • Strong organizational, project, and time management skills to lead or coordinate multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work flexibly and effectively in groups.

  • Twelve-month assignment, 37.5 hours weekly M-F with occasional weekend and evening work possible

  • We welcome beginning or early career librarians and anticipate filling this position at the rank of Assistant University Librarian or Associate University Librarian. Rank and salary are dependent upon experience and credentials. Min starting salary $61,000
  • Salary range commensurate with experience and faculty rank
  • Exemplary job performance, professional development and/or research, and service are required for reappointment and promotion in rank
