Job Summary

Supports the operations of the Human Research Protections Program at a growing research university by assisting in the oversight of research involving human participants. Provides administrative and operational support to department leadership through managing large volume protocol submissions, responding to departmental communications, and facilitating researcher training and outreach. Provides guidance to users through the IRB review process and protocol submission system. This role is designed to build knowledge and familiarity with regulations and systems governing human subjects research while contributing to the efficient functioning of the office.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops knowledge of human subject's research regulations through professional development and mentoring
  2. Reviews exempt studies as assigned by IRB office leadership
  3. Assists with the administration of expedited study reviews under the direction of department leadership
  4. Supports full board study reviews as directed leadership
  5. Contributes to the IRB reliance process as assigned
  6. Routes IRB inquiries to appropriate personnel, with limited responsibility for addressing researcher or customer questions
  7. Provides administrative support, including document management and other office functions as needed
  8. Assists with communications with researchers (e.g., courtesy notifications) and supports outreach activities as assigned
  9. Participates in quality assessment and improvement initiatives under the guidance of leadership
  10. Participates with post-approval monitoring program activities as directed
  11. Participates in investigations of potential noncompliance with human subject's research regulations as assigned
  12. Coordinates logistics and follow-up for IRB committee meetings as assigned
  13. Supports the delivery of researcher training programs in alignment with leadership directives

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education

Required Experience
One (1) year of related experience

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education

Proposed Salary

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES
Able to interpret regulations, policies, and procedures related to human subject's research and other aspects of research compliance
Able to apply regulatory review criteria to incoming protocol applications
Able to work independently with minimal supervision
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time, meeting assigned deadlines

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of federal, state, local, and University regulations regarding human subject's research
Understanding of research ethics and compliance, as well as related terminology
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (e.g., Microsoft Office suite)

SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills
Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
