Offer Description
A call for applications is open for a Research Grant (BI) within the scope of the project “VIMOS – Virtual Integrated Market Online Shopping”, with SIID topology - Business R&D - Co-promotion - Low Density, project number 21244, NORTE2030-FEDER-02214300”, funded by the “European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Northern Regional Program (Norte 2030) of Portugal 2030”, under the following conditions:

2. Admission Requirements
- The candidate must hold a master’s degree in computer science or related fields.
- The candidate must be enrolled in a doctoral program in Computer Science or related scientific fields, or in a non-degree-granting integrated course to the pedagogical project of a higher education institution.
- Proficiency in Portuguese and English (written and oral communication) will be required.
3. Work plan
The tasks to be performed are:
- Design and implementation of a reference example of a 'retail park' including stores, displays and products.
- Collaboration in the automation of the creation and configuration process of retail parks, stores, displays and products.
- Optimization of processes to allow the use of the solution without recourse to specific hardware or specialized knowledge.
- Collaboration in the preparation of scientific articles and support in the preparation of technical reports.
4. Objectives
Design of a reference example of a 'retail park' including stores, displays and products, in accordance with the current state of the art; ensure simplification, notably through automation, of the creation and configuration process of retail parks, stores, displays and products; and writing scientific articles and supporting the preparation of technical reports.
5. Applicable legislation and regulations

6. Workplace and scientific guidance
The work will be carried out at the facilities of the project co-promoters (Bragança), under the scientific guidance of Professor Paulo Jorge Teixeira Matos and Professor Rogério Júnior Correia Tavares.
7. Grant duration
The grant will have an initial duration of 6 months, with a planned start date of 01/10/2026 (non-renewable).
8. Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance
The grant amount corresponds to 1,359.64€, according to the grant value table attributed by FCT, I.P. in the country.
Grant holders will benefit from personal accident insurance and, if they are not covered by any social protection regime, can ensure the exercise of right to social security upon adherence to the voluntary social insurance scheme, in terms set out in the Code of Contributory Regimes of the Social Security System Social Security. The grant amount will be paid monthly by bank transfer.
9. Selection methods and respective valuation
The selection methods to be used will be the following:
- Technical knowledge and experience, according to the desired profile (50%);
- Scientific CV, considering publications and participation in projects (30%);
- Conditions, and expression of interest, to undertake doctoral training at the scope of the project (20%).
If deemed necessary, the jury may call eligible candidates for a face-to-face interview, where motivation, availability and knowledge will be assessed candidates to develop the proposed work plan. In this circumstance, the final grade will result from the interview (with a weight of 30%) and the evaluation of the points previous ones (with a weight of 70%).
The jury may not award the grant if the candidates' classification is lower than 9.5 values from 0 to 20.
10. Composition of the Selection Jury
The jury is made up of Professor Paulo Jorge Teixeira Matos (President), Professor Rogério Júnior Correia Tavares (vowel) and Professor José Gonçalves (vowel). Substitutes: Professor Rui Pedro Lopes and Professor Pedro Filipe Fernandes Oliveira.
11. Method of publishing/notifying results
The communications and results of the evaluation will be published through the portal submission of UPB applications or, if necessary, through notification by email.
12. Application deadline
The competition is open in the period between 08/31/2026 and 09/11/2026.
13. How to submit applications
Applications can be formalized through the application submission portal from UPB (http://concursos.ipb.pt), with the inclusion of the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae;
- Certificate of qualifications;
- Motivation letter
Documents proving ownership of academic degrees or diplomas, or enrollment in an academic degree or diploma, may be exempted during the candidacy, being replaced by a declaration of honor from the candidate, which is mandatory verification of this condition during the grant contracting phase. Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require recognition by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16 and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25th. The presentation of recognition is mandatory for signing the contract.
14. Complaint and appeal deadlines and procedures
If the decision to be taken is unfavorable to the granting of the requested grant, candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the date of publication of the evaluation results, to speak out, if they wish, in a prior hearing, under the terms set out in the Administrative Procedure Code.
The final decision may be appealed to the Rector of UPB within 15 days useful after the respective notification.

If deemed necessary, the committee may invite eligible candidates for an in-person interview, where their motivation, availability, and knowledge to develop the proposed work plan will be assessed. In this circumstance, the final grade will result from the interview (weighted at 30%) and the evaluation of the previous points (weighted at 70%). The jury may not award the scholarship if the candidates' classification is lower than 9.5 points on a scale of 0 to 20.
