Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet the eligibility conditions established in Article 9 of the FCT Research Grant Regulations (Regulation No. 950/2019, published in the Portuguese Official Gazette, Series II, No. 241, of 16 December).
Selection process
Selection Methods
The applicable selection method will be the curricular evaluation of the applicants.
Evaluation Criteria
The curricular evaluation comprises the following criteria:
- Curriculum Vitae (20%);
- Bachelor's Degree Grade (30%);
- Master's Degree Grade (20%);
- Knowledge/experience in GIS, Spatial Modelling, and InSAR (20%);
- Motivation Letter demonstrating compliance with all admission requirements (10%).
If deemed necessary, the selection panel may invite the three highest-ranked candidates for an interview. In this case, the interview will account for 30% of the final score, combined with the first-stage evaluation, which will account for 70%.
The panel reserves the right not to award the grant if the applicants do not meet the desired profile.

Publication and Notification of Results
The final evaluation results will be communicated to applicants by notification sent to the email address provided for this purpose.
Should the decision be unfavourable to the award of the grant, applicants will have 10 working days to submit comments during the prior hearing stage, in accordance with Articles 121 and 122 of the Portuguese Administrative Procedure Code (Decree-Law No. 4/2015 of 7 January, as amended).
The selected candidate must express in writing their intention to accept the grant. In the event of non-acceptance, the grant will be awarded to the next candidate according to the final ranking.
Application Period and Submission Procedures
The call is open from 28 August to 10 September 2026.

- Motivation letter;

- Bachelor's and Master's degree certificates. In the case of degrees obtained from foreign institutions, recognition by a Portuguese institution is required, in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018 of 16 August and Ordinance No. 33/2019 of 25 January, as amended;
- For foreign citizens, proof of residence in Portugal, namely a residence permit or another legally equivalent document;
- Proof of enrolment in a PhD programme in Geography or a related field;
- Any other supporting documents considered relevant;
- Declaration on honour stating that, with the signing of the grant agreement and any possible renewals, the maximum cumulative period of four years for this type of grant will not be exceeded (available on the IGOT-ULisboa website);
- Prior consent declaration for communications by electronic means (available on the IGOT-ULisboa website).

Project Summary
The RASTOOL-DoS project aims to address critical gaps in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) through the development of a prototype Ground Motion (GM) analysis service integrated into the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) On-Demand Mapping service. This service will exploit InSAR data from the European Ground Motion Service (EGMS) to strengthen preparedness and response capabilities among DRRM stakeholders. By transforming EGMS outputs into operational maps, the service will facilitate the detection, interpretation, and characterization of ground motion phenomena and their potential impact on structures and infrastructure.
Work Plan
The research grant holder will undertake the following tasks:
- Assessment of the potential impact of Active Deformation Areas (ADAs) at the European scale;
- Application of the products developed within RASTOOL-DoS at the regional scale for the Lisbon Metropolitan Area and the Oeste region;
- Participation in the project's communication and dissemination activities.
