"Instructional Designer"

The Instructional Designer is a full-time staff position that plays a hands-on role in strengthening instructional quality and faculty development across all teaching modalities. This position works directly with faculty to improve course design, enhance instructional strategies, and promote student engagement. The Instructional Designer supports faculty in developing effective learning materials and assessments, offers training and professional development in instructional design and pedagogy, and manages the College’s learning management system (Canvas).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Collaborate with faculty on course design, curriculum alignment, and the development of learning outcomes and assessment strategies, actively assisting with the creation of materials and plans that support effective and coherent instructional planning.
2. Provide individual and group consultations to support instructional quality across in-person, hybrid, and online formats, including hands-on assistance with course materials, activities, technology integration, and building course components in our LMS (Canvas).
3. Design and deliver faculty training and professional development sessions focused on instructional design, engaged learning, and effective teaching practices.
4. Collect and analyze faculty feedback and usage data to evaluate the impact of instructional support and professional development offerings.
5. Maintain current knowledge of trends in instructional design, engaged learning, and educational technology, and share relevant strategies and resources with faculty.
6. Contribute to institutional projects as assigned, offering expertise in instructional practice, course design, and faculty engagement.
7. Provide administrative oversight for the College’s learning management system (Canvas), including managing settings and coordinating system updates and integrations.
8. Contribute to the success of the department by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS

1. Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., instructional design, higher education, educational technology, curriculum and instruction). Terminal degree in related field preferred.
2. Minimum of five years of experience in higher education, with a focus on instructional design, or instructional effectiveness, spanning both undergraduate and graduate instruction.
3. Experience managing or administering a learning management system (preferably Canvas).
4. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in instructional design and assessment of student learning, with experience supporting both face-to-face and online teaching environments.
5. Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, with a record of cross-campus collaboration.
6. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
7. Understanding of accreditation standards related to instructional quality and student success preferred.
