The Child Development Center, at PCC's Sylvania Campus, is looking for a Child Development Specialist (ISTII) to join our team. This is a part-time position(0.85 FTE).
What You'll Do and Who We Are Looking For
Under the direction of Child Development Center management, works with the Sr. Child Development Specialist to plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and programs for children (ages infant to 5 years-old) in the Child Development Center labs. Models and provides feedback on appropriate interaction skills and teaching techniques for program students and parents. Interacts on a daily basis with children in the assigned labs, parents, Early Education and Family Studies students, program faculty, and Senior Child Development Specialist. This position works September through Mid-June with time off in the summer term.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent and two years of post-secondary education in a specific technical discipline appropriate to the instructional support.
- One year of experience supporting laboratory activities in the technical area is required; experience performing the duties described above may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Must have proven communications skills adequate to assist students in understanding the work they are to perform.
Success Criteria:
- Good oral communication skills
Experience in:
- working collaboratively with others and as a member of a team
- working with less experienced early childhood teaching staff
- providing an inclusive early childhood learning environment and modelling inclusive teaching practices
Ability to:
- implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum for children
- assess young children and their development through observation and documentation.
This position works September through Mid-June with time off during the summer term.
