Instructor/Assistant/ Associate Professor of Neurology at CUMC

The Department of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a full-time neurologist specialized in clinical neuroimmunology/multiple sclerosis (MS), with expertise and interest in caring for children and adults with MS and related conditions. The neurologist may be trained in adult or child neurology. Under the supervision of the Multiple Sclerosis Center’s medical director and the Division Chief of Child Neurology, the neurologist will be responsible for the diagnosis and management of neuroimmunological conditions affecting the central nervous system in children and adults. In Neuroimmunology, working within a team that includes four adult neurologists that have completed specialty training in this domain, the new neurologist will have a primarily outpatient practice of children and adults with neuroimmunological disorders. In addition, the neurologist will lead the Neuroimmunology Adult and Pediatric Consult Service, which will provide consult services in neuroimmunology across NYP-Columbia and the Children’s Hospital of New York (CHONY), with support from the clinical neuroimmunology fellows. There is also an annual inpatient service time required by the department, either in the adult inpatient setting (NYP-Columbia) or CHONY, depending on whether the neurologist is trained primarily in Adult or Child Neurology. The position includes working with medical students, neurology residents, the two clinical neuroimmunology fellows, and two nurse practitioners (one of whom is Family trained) that extend the practice’s efforts. While MS remains the diagnosis for most of the patients seen at the MS Center, a wide range of conditions are captured by the neuroimmunological umbrella, including neuromyelitis optica, MOG Antibody Disease, complications of immunotherapy, acute flaccid myelitis, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, paraneoplastic syndromes, limbic encephalitis, NMDA Antibody encephalitis, and transverse myelitis of various etiologies.

Outstanding training in clinical neurology and subspecialty expertise in multiple sclerosis and clinical neuroimmunology across the age span are required. We are looking for an exceptional candidate with strong communication and organizational skills who will become a leader in her or his chosen area of focus, whether that is teaching, clinical care, or clinical/translational research. There are many opportunities for career development and promotion in our dynamic Multiple Sclerosis Center and its affiliated Center for Translational & Computational Neuroimmunology, working collaboratively with our clinical, translational, computational and basic faculty, as well as within Child Neurology.

Non-clinical effort will include conduct of clinical trials in the MS Center and clinical research, with specific projects selected to meet the strategic goals of the Neuroimmunology and Child Neurology Divisions.

Practice sites include Manhattan and Westchester County, NY.

Minimum Degree Required: M.D. or D.O.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidate must be board certified or eligible in Neurology and possess a NYS State license. Must be able to meet credentialing requirements of the Medical Staff Office.
