Job Description:

Full-Time, Faculty, 9-month Academic position - Aviation Maintenance Technology Faculty. This is a Full-Time, due process, benefited Faculty position beginning Fall 2026.
The faculty member will conduct their assignments and co-curricular college activities in a manner consistent with the philosophy and purpose of Aims Community College as stated in the school catalog. The primary purpose of the faculty member is to teach. The faculty member is also responsible for professional development and service to the college.
Primary responsibility is to instruct, plan, organize, and operate within the Aims FAA-approved part 147 aircraft maintenance school (AMTS). Instructor must be available to teach day and/or evening classes. This includes supervising and maintaining a safe environment for students in maintenance labs, developing and building classroom aids, and maintaining lab equipment, tooling, and aircraft. Assist in the development and/or modification of curriculum to meet changing technology in the aviation industry, as well as new courses and/or programs. Assist the Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Chief, Executive Director of Aviation Programs, or Academic Dean as necessary with monitoring and maintaining simulators, tooling, equipment, and aircraft. Participate in student evaluations, advising, registration, and recruiting and retention activities. Must participate in department, division, and college activities while complying with college policies, procedures, mandates, and FAA guidance.
Stay current in professional areas by participating in professional development activities. Maintain contact with the FAA and aviation industry as directed by the A&P Chief and/or the Executive Director of Aviation Programs. Assist the A&P Chief and/or the Executive Director of Aviation Programs with the evaluation and selection of textbooks and course materials. Support implementation of college and departmental missions and goals.
Perform other duties as assigned by the A&P Chief, Executive Director of Aviation Programs, and/or Academic Dean.
Teaching & Professional Obligations:
- Interacting with students to provide opportunities to learn, creating conditions that facilitate learning, and using techniques and methods that create a high probability that learning will occur.
- Instructional Delivery: Providing clear communication of information and promoting learning through an effective learning environment.
- Instructional Design: Designing, sequencing, implementing, and presenting experiences which promote student learning (both in-person & online), and designing, developing, and implementing tools, technologies, and procedures for assessing student-learning outcomes.
- Collaborate in the development and implementation of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments of learning for students.
- Provide effective and high-quality instruction of the subject being taught.
- Apply learning-centered educational practices such as creating and communicating clearly-defined outcomes for student learning.
- Provide a diverse array of learning activities that directly tie to those defined outcomes.
- Use assessment data to improve instruction and learning, and participate in an ongoing College-Wide dialogue about teaching and learning.
- Develop and refine department curriculum as necessary to maintain currency in pedagogy and content
- Adopt new teaching methodologies as appropriate.
- Implement department, division, and/or institutional goals as assigned.
- Maintain office hours, turn in grades on time, and meet assigned classes.
- Submits course syllabi and other required documents on time.
- Manages the classroom facility.
- Keeps accurate attendance and grade records.
- Meets other professional obligations as stated in the Faculty Annual Plan and Evaluation.
- Other Duties as Assigned.
Scholarly & Creative Activities (Professional Development) & Service to the College:
- Endeavors related to a faculty member's teaching assignment that contribute to the discovery, dissemination, and practical application of knowledge and/or skill.
- Acquire and/or maintain certification.
- Attend conferences, workshops, and/or training appropriate to one's field.
- Complete coursework related to one's teaching assignment.
- Create teaching methodology and instructional design.
- Other activities that contribute to keeping current in the content field.
- Helping the College meet the goals and objectives of its mission and strategic plan.
- Provide competent advising to students seeking AAS, AS, and/or AA Degrees and program certificates.
- Fulfill College service requirements by making meaningful contributions on campus and/or to community service groups.
- Participate in institutional and departmental recruitment and retention activities. Assist in the evaluation and selection of textbooks and other resources and materials in one's assigned area.
- Serve on department, division, and institutional committees.
- Assist in program and curriculum review, revision, and the development and assessment of learning.
- Maintain classrooms and/or labs.
- Demonstrate a willingness to embrace and apply the provisions of the College's mission statement, purpose, philosophy, and commitment to diversity.
Minimum Qualifications:
- One-year (two semesters) verified full-time teaching experience in an FAA Part 147 Program or an Aviation CTE Program (full-time is defined as 51% or more of a teaching schedule dedicated to teaching the content area)
- OR
- One year of documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance.
PLUS
- Hold a current FAA Part 65 Airframe and Powerplant certificate.

- Ability to teach using methodologies that support a student-centered learning environment.
- Computer literacy and the ability to use computer technology in classroom/lab instruction.
- A willingness to take classes in teaching methods, curriculum development, computer applications, or other coursework deemed necessary by the A&P Chief, Executive Director, or Academic Dean.
- A positive attitude toward teaching courses in varied modalities, including online, synchronous remote, and traditional face-to-face.
- This position requires the use of a company vehicle for business travel. The selected candidate must successfully pass an MVR and be insurable under Aims insurance.
- A pre-employment urine analysis will be required of the selected candidate.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in Aviation Maintenance or another related field.

- A demonstrated aptitude for developing course content and teaching in varied modalities: online, synchronous remote, traditional face-to-face, and blended (hybrid) versions of each.
