Instructor of Music in Theory/Composition
Position Summary
The Department of Music invites applicants for the position of Instructor of Music in Theory/Composition. This is a 9-month appointment beginning August 16, 2026. A-State seeks an educator who will join the Department of Music, recognized throughout the region for artistic excellence and student success.
The Instructor of Music in Theory/Composition is expected to be an excellent music educator in theory and composition for undergraduate and graduate level music students
Duties & Responsibilities
The Instructor of Music in Theory/Composition will teach music theory-related courses including:
- Undergraduate/Graduate Music Theory
- Orchestration
- Form and Analysis
- Aural Theory
- Counterpoint
- Applied Music Composition
- Additional duties will be assigned based on the strengths of the selected applicant and the Department of Music needs
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Applicant should demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching and artistic leadership in the areas of theory and composition. Evidence of active scholarly and creative work is preferred.
General Days/Hours
Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM plus additional hours for musical events on weekends and weekday evenings.

Minimum Qualifications
An earned Master of Music degree in Theory and/or Composition is required; a Doctorate in Theory and/or Composition is preferred.
