Our Program and Who We Are Looking For
Portland Community College seeks applicants for a full-time tenure-track position in our Reading, Writing, and English Program. We seek faculty applicants whose lived experiences, community connections, and scholarly credentials prepare them to provide transformational education for our students and our region.
Successful candidates will teach the majority of their courses in the first-year writing program where we have particular interest in hiring faculty with experience, expertise, and passion in one or more of the following specialties:
- Linguistic diversity, antiracist composition, rhetorical sovereignty, multilingual writers
- Reflective writing, teaching for transfer, metacognition
Successful candidates can expect to teach approximately 9 courses per year (on PCC's quarter system), based at one of PCC's four campuses. PCC's courses are offered in a variety of modalities. Minimum Qualifications
To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).
For ENG and WR courses:
- Education: MFA, MA or PhD in Rhetoric/Composition, English, or Literature, OR an MA or PhD in an interdisciplinary field with a minimum of 30 graduate quarter credit-hours in one or a combination of Rhetoric and Composition, English, or Literature.
- Experience: Have taught at least four college-level composition classes or have equivalent college classroom experience through a mentoring or internship program.
Success Criteria
In addition, the ideal candidate will have ....
- Disciplinary knowledge in the field of Rhetoric & Composition
- A teaching practice that acknowledges linguistic diversity, antiracist composition, rhetorical sovereignty, multilingual writers
- Demonstrated skill at culturally responsive education
- Experience working with students who have historically been excluded or underserved by higher education
- Demonstrated success with peer collaboration and leadership

Regarding Academic Credentials at PCC
These positions are included in the bargaining agreement between Portland Community College and the Portland Community College Faculty Federation Employees.
Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.
Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard. How We Determine Initial Salary Placement
Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($73,911) and Step 3 ($78,408) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement. Placement at a higher step may be possible based upon additional experience and internal equity. The highest step of the range is step 17, ($118,558) Please review the salary schedule here.
