Fairfield Prep is currently seeking qualified candidates who are energetic and passionate educators for a full time position in the Visual & Performing Arts Department as an Instrumental Music Teacher. As an Ignatian Educator at Fairfield Prep, the Instrumental Music Teacher will be expected to:
Instructional Duties
- Teach 5 sections per semester from the following:
- 2 Band - 1 Freshman/1 Upperclassmen
- 2 Percussion - 1 Freshman/1 Upperclassmen
- 1 String Orchestra
- Utilize iPads in our 1:1 digital environment for instruction, practice tools, and student feedback
- Develop engaging, standards-based lesson plans and student-centered rehearsal strategies
- Differentiate instruction to meet a wide range of musical ability levels
Ensemble Direction (Co-Curricular)
- Direct after-school ensembles including:
- Jazzuits (Jazz Ensemble) - Weekly evening rehearsals (generally Tuesday at 6:00)
- Pit Orchestra (Select student ensemble) for the annual Spring Musical
- Collaborate with the Theater Director, Director of Music, and fellow arts faculty to coordinate rehearsal schedules and performance logistics
- Collaborate with the Director of Music to plan and lead or co-lead approximately 10 annual performances (concerts, school events, and community engagements across all ensembles)
Program & Departmental Support
- Participate in department meetings, school-wide professional development, and the Ignatian Educator Formation Program
- Collaborate with the Director of Music to select repertoire, organize instrument inventory, coordinate music purchases, and manage performance space needs
- Support student recruitment and retention in the music program
- Participate in school liturgies and community events, where appropriate
- Coordinate with the Director of Music for travel and trip planning support for off-site performances
- Coordinate with the Director of Music to finalize classroom layout and plans for an ensemble rehearsal space in Prep’s new Barron Center for Arts & Recreation
- Coordinate with the Director of Music for CMEA/Regional/All-State event support
- Attend and actively participate in school sponsored trips, retreats, service trips, extracurricular activities, athletic events, and community events held during and after school hours at the school or off-site locations as needed.
- Commit to developing young men to become intellectually competent, religious, loving, committed to doing justice, and open to growth
Qualifications for Position:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- Candidates must have experience teaching Music in a high school setting (Minimum 2 years preferred)
- Familiarity with Jesuit or Catholic educational philosophy is highly desirable
- Ability to teach and conduct a wide range of ensembles with musical excellence and pedagogical care
- Proven musicianship skills on a wide variety of instruments
- Excellent classroom management skills with both small and large groups
- Experience selecting diverse, appropriate, and engaging repertoire
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Willingness to support the school’s mission through spiritual, co-curricular, and community activities
