Internal Expression of Interest: People and Culture Director (Fixed Term – up to 18 Months)

We are seeking a People and Culture Director to lead the People, Culture, Safety and Wellbeing function across MIT and Unitec during a period of significant organisational change. This role will shape and drive the people strategy, ensuring it actively supports vocational learning and delivers tangible, positive outcomes for kaimahi and ākonga.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director will be responsible for the following areas, noting this list is indicative and not exhaustive):

Provision of strategic and operational advice to the Chief Executive, Council and senior leaders.

Leading a high‑performing People & Culture team aligned with the organisation’s strategy and values.

Overseeing priority change initiatives and identify risks while developing practical, effective solutions.

Leading industrial and employment relations activity, including collective bargaining.

Proven senior People & Culture leadership experience in a large or complex environment.

Strong industrial and employment relations expertise (preferred).

Demonstrated ability to provide strategic advisory support to executives and governance.

Experience leading significant change and driving organisational performance.

Pragmatism, approachability and passion for aligning people across all thing’s HR.
