Job Description Summary: The Intramural Sports Programming Recreation/Facility Coordinator oversees daily operations of the Kirmayer Fitness Center and assists in developing, maintaining, and administering a comprehensive fitness program. The Coordinator leads efforts to enhance and promote fitness programs for the campus community through collaboration and marketing initiatives. This position provides leadership on the fitness floor and supports the Facility Operations Manager and Department Director with supervision, events, and services. The role includes delivering flexibility, cardiovascular, and resistance training instruction; ensuring safety and proper spotting; conducting fitness assessments and movement screens; and supporting overall wellness and nutrition initiatives.
Job Duties:
Intramural Sports Program
- Supervise student intramural program manager(s), officials, and scorekeepers.
- Hire, train, and evaluate intramural staff.
- Oversee scheduling and registration of all sports through imleagues.com.
Facility Maintenance
- Maintain operations pertaining to Intramural equipment, including preventative maintenance on equipment, and logging service tickets for equipment repair.
- Ensure facility cleanliness and safety in all intramural sports facilities.
Facility Supervision
- Help supervise the fitness floor.
- Close and/or open facility.
- Enforce all policies and procedures.
- Responsible for knowing day-to-day operations and daily events schedule.
- Provide leadership during disciplinary matters and conflicts.
- Assist with special events & programs.
Risk Management
- Recognize and respond to risk and safety hazards through equipment maintenance and facility observation.
- Report accidents, injuries, and emergency situations in designated protocol.
- Complete incident reports.
Customer Service
- Conflict resolution of participant issues and suggestions.
- Promote a welcoming environment.
- Ensure customer satisfaction.
- Conduct fitness assessments, personal training, group training sessions, group fitness classes, and manage client scheduling.
- Complete administrative tasks.
- Create and administer educational presentations and campus outreach.

Work Environment
- Regular work hours for this position will be Tuesday & Thursday, 10:00 am - 7:00 pm, Wednesday & Friday 12:30-9:30pm and Saturday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm. This position is a 40-hour position.
- This position required the incumbent to move up to 45lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
Required Qualifications
Certifications/Licenses:
- Hold and maintain certification by a nationally accredited personal training organization.
- CPR/AED certification is required or must be obtained within the first four weeks of employment.
Work Experience:
- Four (4) years in a related field. Education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
- Experience in a fitness/wellness setting.
- Experience organizing and managing recreational/club sporting events.
- Customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master's degree in related field.
Certifications/Licenses: ACSM certification.
Work Experience:
- Personal training and/or fitness specialist experience.
- Experience with movement assessments / fitness testing.

Compensation Statement: The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
