Are you looking for a hands-on role where you can learn new skills and work in a team-oriented environment? This position offers the opportunity to work outside, while developing a skilled trade on commercial irrigation systems, including water wells and water tower operation. You'll also learn to operate equipment and contribute to essential infrastructure projects. We provide uniforms with an option to have laundered free of cost, and all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to keep you safe on the job. Overtime opportunities are available for those who want to earn more while building their career.

Duties:

  • Repair and maintain commercial irrigation systems, including spray heads, drip lines, valves, timers, controllers, saddles, quick couplers, piping, etc.
  • Repair and install irrigation mainlines from 1" to 12" in size, using components and techniques established by the industry to include electro fusion and poly-welding. Piping materials include poly, PVC, copper, and steal.
  • Troubleshoot and repair irrigation communication lines and low voltage wiring for proper operation of system. Includes use of multi-meter.
  • Set up and adjust timers/controllers to meet landscapers' needs.
  • Use GIS to locate irrigation equipment and watering zones.
  • Using a mobile device, operate irrigation system programs to run watering zones as needed.
  • Conduct regular inspections and perform routine maintenance on irrigation systems.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair both shallow and deep water wells and water towers.
  • Accurately document work performed and materials used.
  • Place purchase orders for replacement of materials used.
  • Identify and proper us hand tools to include trench shovel, hand pump, saw blades, hammers, etc.
  • Identify and proper use of power tools to include drills, Sawzall, gas pump, hole saws, small generators, etc.
  • Operate mini excavators, ditch witches, full size trucks, pull behind trailers, and ATVs transverse campus and facilitate installation and repair of main irrigation lines.
  • Perform other duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
  • Interfaces with students and faculty, align with other departments regarding questions or complaints.
  • On-call rotation required.
  • Overtime and weekend support as needed.

Job Requirements

Required Education: High School diploma or GED

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in order to exchange information or give instructions.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Teamwork and communication skills.

Certifications:

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days from hire date

Department Preferences:

  • Trade school certificate in landscaping, plumbing, or related field.
  • GIS mapping experience.
  • Read and understand written materials such as blueprints, metrics or technical manuals.
  • Use appropriate tools or equipment with expertise.

Working Conditions:

Physical:
Regular exposure to physically demanding tasks such as digging, heavy lifting, bending and stooping, considerable use of arms, hands and leg movement.

Environmental:
Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions. Exposure to extreme temperature changes. Handling dirty materials. May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures. May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies. May be required to work outside of normal working hours. May assist with shoveling snow and ice on sidewalks and parking lots and uses salt or other materials in areas where it is deemed necessary.
