IT Officer - 1st Line

Location: Saïd Business School, Park End Street, Oxford and Egrove Park, Kennington

Salary: Grade 5: £32,108 - £37,338 per annum including the Oxford University Weighting of £1,730 per annum

Permanent, full time (36.5 hours per week)

The Oxford Saïd IT Service Desk is the central hub for delivering responsive, professional and customer-focused technical support to a diverse and dynamic academic community. We are looking for a proactive and service-oriented IT Officer – 1st Line to join our fast-paced team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives on solving problems, enjoys helping people and wants to develop their IT career within a globally recognised institution.

As an IT Officer, you will be the first point of contact for IT support across the School. You will take ownership of incidents and service requests, delivering onsite and remote assistance via phone, email, remote support tools and in person at the IT Tech Bar. This is a varied, hands-on role requiring strong communication skills, technical knowledge and a genuine commitment to customer advocacy.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver professional and timely 1st line support across multiple communication channels.
  • Log, categorise and manage incidents and service requests in line with ITIL processes.
  • Work on a rota basis covering the IT Tech Bar and weekday shifts (including Bank Holidays when required).
  • Troubleshoot and support hardware including desktops, laptops, smartphones, tablets and printers.
  • Deliver Staff IT Inductions.

You will demonstrate excellent communication and organisation skills. A collaborative team player, you will bring proven problem-solving skills, the ability to think broadly around issues and the initiative to work independently when required. Additionally, with experience delivering high levels of customer service, you will confidently follow established processes and work accurately with service desk tools and technology to ensure consistent, professional support.
