Job Duties
Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing students for transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. The College is located outside the Tri-Cities region.
RBC is offering a part-time opportunity for a Landscape Helper. This role supports the Facilities Management team by contributing to the enhancement and maintenance of the campus grounds.
- Care for established residence lawn and flower beds by mulching, aerating, weeding, trimming, and edging around flower beds, walks and walls
- Assist the Grounds Department in preparing terrain, applying fertilizers, seeding lawns, transplanting shrubs and plants, using manual and power-operated equipment
- Provide lawn care by using hand, power or riding mower and edger to trim around walks, flower beds and walls
- Trim flowers and keep flower beds clean and weed-free
- Landscape by planting seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, shrubs, and trees
- Rake, mulch, prune and trim trees, shrubs, and hedges using shears, pruners, or chainsaw
- Water lawn, trees, and plants using portable sprinkler system, hoses or watering cans
- Haul and spread mulch, topsoil, and straw to hold soil in place
- Rake, sweep, and use a garden hose, and remove litter
- Provide proper upkeep of walkways, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, and other grounds features, including outdoor lawn furniture
- Assist with shoveling snow from walkways, driveways, parking lots, and spread salt in essential areas
- Provide preventative maintenance and performs minor repairs on lawn care equipment and college-owned vehicles
- Report problems with equipment immediately to the supervisor
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Considerable landscaping experience
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge and brush trimmers, and axes
- Ability to operate powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, chainsaws, electric clippers, and electric pruning saws
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to bend, pull, push, stoop, and stand for long periods of time
- Ability to perform duties in various weather conditions
Additional Considerations
Associate's Degree or coursework related to horticulture
