Law Enforcement and Justice Administration Full-Time Tenure Track Faculty
Harper College is one of the nation's premier community colleges and one of the largest, serving approximately 25,000 students annually in Chicago's northwest suburbs. This is a full time, tenure track position. The successful candidate will teach courses to prepare students for careers in law enforcement and ancillary fields. This includes providing instruction in law enforcement, justice administration, and forensics as it applies to investigative practices.
Deliver course content that aligns with the college's curriculum standards and student learning outcomes.
Assist in the development of course syllabi for the department.
Develop assignments, and assessments that reflect current industry practices and ensure course outcomes are met.
Assist in the selection of software, equipment and other instructional materials.
Assist in recruiting for the program by providing communication on activities and events that will support recruitment efforts.
Assist in the development of print and digital marketing materials.
Foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment that accommodates diverse learning styles and promotes student success.
Use technology, software, and other resources to enhance course delivery and student engagement, including online, hybrid, or face-to-face modalities.
Maintain accurate records of student's progress and grades.
Adheres to mid-term verification and final grade posting deadlines.
Maintains the highest possible standards of classroom and laboratory instruction.
Applies innovative teaching and learning pedagogies; keeps abreast of new information and developments in law enforcement and justice administration.
Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs.
Works to maximize student placement in the Law Enforcement and Justice Administration field.
Assists in the development of student internship opportunities.
Maintains open lines of communication with Dean Program Coordinator, colleagues, industry partners and students.
Adheres to institutional policies and procedures, including those related to academic integrity and accessibility.
Schedule Information: This position teaches a standard load of fifteen (15) credit hours per semester (30 credits per academic year). This may include release time to be given for chair/coordinator duties. Classes may be offered in day, evening, and/or online modalities. Full-time faculty are required to hold weekly office hours on campus to be available for student support.
Educational Requirements: Master's degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, or related fields.
Preferred Education Requirements: Master's degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, or related fields with professional certifications.
Experience Requirements: Experience in law enforcement and/or criminal justice is required. Teaching experience is preferred. Must be an effective, enthusiastic teacher committed to teaching at the community college level.
Preferred Experience Requirements: Forensics instructional/practical experience preferred.
