- Base salary from $115,566 per annum + 17% Superannuation
About the position
Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel via a Senior Lawyer in Commercial Operations and Research, this role sits within the Legal Services team and provides high-quality legal advice across the University.
The Lawyer supports a broad range of stakeholders, including Schools, Campuses and central Administration, by advising on diverse legal matters, with a strong focus on drafting, negotiating and advising on contracts and other matters involving the University.
The role is suited to a mid-level lawyer with approximately 4–5 years’ post-admission experience and strong practical legal capability. Experience within a university or other large, complex organisation is desirable, along with a combination of private practice (firm) and in-house experience. Practical legal experience is essential.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have
- A degree in law with a current practising certificate or a right to hold one under the Victorian Legal Profession Act 2004
- Relevant post-admission experience of at least 4-5 years, preferably in general commercial contracts, intellectual property, information technology, property, employment or competition and consumer laws
- Demonstrated experience in drafting and advising on general commercial contracts in knowledge of broad areas of law, with particular expertise in any combination of the following areas general commercial, intellectual property, information technology, property, employment laws or competition and consumer laws
- Experience advising higher education or government institutions or large corporate or private organisations, preferably as in-house or corporate legal counsel
- Knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge of University legislative and governance frameworks and applying that knowledge to the provision of legal services
