Lead Surgical Scheduler/Patient Liaison
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Lead Surgical Scheduler/Patient Liaison for the department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The primary purpose of the Lead Surgical Scheduler/Patient Liaison is to ensure that all office visits, surgeries in the operating room, outpatient procedures are scheduled in an organized, efficient, and timely manner. In addition to scheduling, position is responsible for contacting insurance companies to obtain authorization prior to all procedures. Support the department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences by enhancing patient management, by facilitating the administration of health care delivery and reimbursement through assisting the department with financial patient management, surgical scheduling and performs administrative tasks assigned to support effective and efficient office operations. Position requires interaction and competency in providing care to patients in all age categories. Performs a variety of patient registration, billing and collection duties in support of clinic operations.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Obtains pre-certification and/or prior authorization from insurance companies for patient management.
- Ensures that all pre-certifications and authorizations are documented in EMR and that all relevant information is entered that complies with the patient's insurance. Must work collaboratively with nursing staff and physicians to ensure all diagnostic coding is properly recorded.
- Maintains surgical procedure spreadsheet for payment reconciliation.
- Maintains knowledge of and participates in performance improvement activities.
- Advises patients regarding preparation of necessary forms; counsels patients regarding paperwork requirements.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Four (4) years of progressively more responsible clerical experience, including receptionist and scheduling duties, plus at least two (2) years of surgical scheduling required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, or hearing. No special vision requirements. Ability to lift or exert up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment: Busy office environment with moderate noise.
