To add to our esteemed staff, we are seeking a Learning Specialist at our New York City (Lower Manhattan) campus.

Responsibilities:

The NYC based part-time Learning Specialist develops, coordinates, and implements academic support for all students. This position facilitates both academic success and students’ development as lifelong learners and as professionals.

Position Duties:

• Designs and facilitates workshops focused on learning and study skills.
• Designs, revises, and executes training programs and materials for peer tutors and peer mentors.
• Maintains and updates knowledge of learning theory and applies advanced learning strategies while working with students in groups or individually.
• Incorporates an empathetic mindset with keen observational skills and excellent listening skills.
• Supports peer tutors and peer mentors with implementation of skills learned in training.
• Maintains detailed appointment reflections after each session with students.
• Attends and engages in ongoing training, assessments, and meetings with Learning Commons staff and faculty.
• Vets and interviews candidates for positions within the Learning Commons.
• Serves as a resource for faculty in matters related to academic support and success.
• Reports on strengths and weaknesses of peer tutors and peer mentors to the Director of the Learning Commons.
• Has an insightful understanding of effective teaching methods for different learning styles and aptitudes.
• Works on projects and other delegated duties to advocate and support the Learning Commons.
• Develop support and aid with professional entrance exams.
• Interact with faculty to tailor offerings to specific program needs.
• Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Requirements:

• Previous teaching/tutoring experience.
• Excellent communications skills.
• Able to motivate and encourage students.
• Able to communicate with all members of the University community.
• Desire to help others and deliver outstanding customer service.
