Position Title: Learning Specialist

Position Type: Part time

Job Summary: This role provides executive functioning support to neurodiverse students with learning differences and executive functioning challenges. The Learning Specialist reviews neuropsychological evaluations, IEPs, 504 plans and all relevant medical documentation, meets with assigned students to develop a plan of support and for regular one-on-one support sessions and coordinates support with university staff and faculty. This position reports directly to the Director of OAR. This position is ideal for candidates with strong virtual communication skills, a background in academic support for Neurodivergent students with executive functioning challenges and an understanding of assistive technology as a tool for student success.

Job Duties:

  • Reports to the Director, Office of Accessibility Resources (OAR)

Work Setting/Schedule (Hiring for Virtual and In Person positions)

Virtual:

  • Flexible schedule 10-15 hours weekly to support students during hours that in-person staff are typically unavailable (5-9pm on weekdays and possible weekend hours)
  • Executive Functioning meetings must align with student availability, which may include afternoons, weekends or early evenings
  • Participation in remote onboarding, training, and ongoing check-ins with the Director of OAR is required
  • Requires a quiet, secure environment and reliable internet access
  • Position would be 40 weeks (August - May 31, 2026), unless deemed necessary to continue

In Person:

  • Flexible schedule, 10-15 hours weekly to provide support during 9am-5pm and may also include evenings and weekends
  • Executive Functioning meetings must align with student availability, which may include afternoons, weekends or early evenings
  • Participation with in person onboarding, training and ongoing check-ins with the Director of OAR is required
  • Position would be 40 weeks (August - May 31, 2026), unless deemed necessary to continue

What You Will Do:

  • Review of medical information, neuropsychological assessments and academic history to develop an individualized support program for a student caseload. Conduct weekly or biweekly one-on-one in-person meetings with assigned students to reinforce executive functioning strategies, including: time management, task initiation and planning, sustained attention and academic organization
  • Promote the use of assistive technology tools when appropriate, such as text-to speech, speech-to-text, digital planners, organizations apps and screen readers.
  • Assist students in reviewing and interpreting syllabi, managing assignment timelines, and organizing academic responsibilities using digital tools.
  • Guide students in establishing and maintaining virtual planning systems such as shared calendars, checklists, or digital task boards.
  • Submit weekly written progress reports to the Director of OAR documenting: coaching session summaries and student engagement, progress on tasks and goals, emerging academic or behavioral concerns
  • Meet remotely or in person with the Director of OAR to discuss student progress, adjust coaching strategies, and ensure alignment with program goals.
  • Promote positive academic behaviors including: Attendance and participation in classes, Proactive communication with faculty and support staff, Monitoring and responding to grades and feedback and management of academic communications and digital notifications

What You Will Bring:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Professional Work Experience: Two years of experience in executive functioning challenges, learning disabilities, or ADHD in an academic environment
  • Strong communication skills and comfort with virtual platforms and tools
  • Excellent documentation, time management, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a virtual work environment

Preferred, but not Required:

  • Master's degree; preferred disciplines include education, psychology, counseling, related fields.
  • Experience working with college students, particularly those with learning disabilities, ADHD, or executive functioning challenges.
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies commonly used in academic environments (e.g., Read & Write, Kurzweil, Notability, Google Keep, etc.) and experience training students in the use of assistive technologies.
  • Previous experience in higher education academic support, coaching or tutoring
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Moodle, Canvas)
  • Knowledge of disability services and/or experience with executive functioning interventions

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods; frequent in-person meetings; some movement across campus required

Salary Range: 30.00-30.00

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.

This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.
