Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides small group and individualized tutoring for reading and writing assignments taught at the College in the Reading and Writing Center and remotely using Zoom. Also responsible for training, supervising, and evaluating peer tutors.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  1. Trains, supervises, and evaluates peer tutors in accordance with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) guidelines.
  2. Provides small group and individualized tutoring in person and remotely to students enrolled in Cape Cod Community College courses.
  3. Assists students in using other academic support resources in person and online and in developing studying and learning strategies.
  4. Consults with Coordinator, faculty advisors, and support staff regarding academic support services.
  5. Communicates in person and remotely with the O'Neill Center for Student Access and Support staff, as necessary.
  6. Contributes to the assessment of the effectiveness of learning support services.
  7. Participates in Learning Specialist staff meetings and trainings.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's degree.
  2. Experience in tutoring at the secondary or post-secondary level.
  3. Knowledge of tutoring techniques.
  4. Teaching experience.
  5. Ability to tutor all levels of reading and writing taught at the College.
  6. Knowledge of study skills and strategies.
  7. Experience with small group and peer tutoring methodologies.
  8. Familiarity and experience with instructional technologies.
  9. Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience working with students with limited English proficiency and students in developmental education classes.
  2. Experience working in a community college environment with diverse populations, especially underprepared, disadvantaged, and non-traditional students.
  3. Experience teaching at the secondary or post-secondary level.
  4. Experience tutoring remotely.

Additional Information:

COMPENSATION: $36.55 (Interval 1 - Starting) per hour, 18 hours per week; Part-time, Non-benefited MCCC Unit Position.
