PURPOSE
The Development Officer III, under direction, for the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (HRI) is responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating and personal solicitation of prospective donors. Develops, coordinates, and maintains comprehensive fundraising programs including grant writing. Works closely with the HRI Executive Director of Development to establish the annual development program to meet the financial goals of the organization.
DESCRIPTION
Functional Area 1: Donor Relations
Percent Effort: 40%
Job Duties
- Establish and maintain relationships with existing HRI donors and donor prospects.
- Build and manage a portfolio of lead donors.
- Employ moves management to elevate individual donors and their giving.
- Present donors with giving opportunities, present gift proposals and solicit prospects based on the fundraising objectives of HRI.
- In concert with the development team and HRI marcom, assist with the execution of event based fundraising program, including identification and recruitment of guests and guest/donor follow-up.
Functional Area 2: Foundation and Corporation Relations
Percent Effort: 40%
Job Duties
- Identify and qualify prospective foundation and corporate donors based on area of interest and alignment of values and mission.
- Maintain current summary of programs, projects, needs and budgets across the Institute.
- Batch and submit a grant proposal plan to TAMU-CC Foundation Trustees for review and approval at each meeting (September, November, March, June).
- Craft and submit grant proposals based on the overall needs and priorities of the Institute.
- Manage grant cycle to ensure execution of fund agreement, proper fund processing and reporting.
Functional Area 3: Recordkeeping
Percent Effort: 20%
Job Duties
- Maintain Raiser’s Edge records to reflect all activity and to set reminders for upcoming deadlines and next steps.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
- Four years of related experience.
- Knowledge of database and spreadsheet applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent grant writing and grant management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with all levels of individuals, both internal and external.
- Strong initiative and self-motivation.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to interface with all levels of an organization, both internally and externally.
- Proficient in Raiser’s Edge (RENXT), Outlook, Word and Zoom.
- Up to 50% travel.
SALARY: Commensurate (Dependent upon experience.)
