About the Program:

The Chemistry Department at CSU Channel Islands offers undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry. It provides support courses for other degrees, as well as for general education.

About the Position:

Faculty will teach one or more sections of a general and/or organic chemistry lecture and/or laboratory course including development of a syllabus and course materials. As a department, our faculty are expected to work with each other to provide a consistent and high-quality experience for our students.

Minimum Degree Requirements:

The preferred candidate will have a M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related discipline.

Required Qualifications:

  • Required qualifications include a commitment to student success and a student-centered education;
  • A minimum of one year teaching or teaching assistant experience in general and/or organic chemistry labs;
  • A commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Applicants should demonstrate the ability to effectively engage with a broad student population and provide mentorship that supports student academic success.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A record of effective teaching with a variety of appropriate methodologies;
  • Experience in the use of innovative instructional strategies;
  • Experience in curriculum and laboratory development in general and/or organic chemistry;
  • Experience with, and commitment to, working in a multiethnic, multilingual, and multicultural environment;
  • The ability to collaborate with other instructors.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop syllabi for assigned courses, adhering to CI syllabus policy
  • Develop materials, teach, and assess student learning in the assigned courses
  • Hold regular office hours for students in the course

California State University Lecturer Salary (Academic Year) Schedules can be found at

Placement into a range is based on qualifications and experience. Initial assignments are typically at the bottom third of the salary range. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
