Department Information
Within this setting, the mission of the Department of Communication Arts is to provide students with a broad-based, comprehensive, and interdisciplinary study of human communication. Within Georgia Southern University's culture of engagement, the Communication Arts faculty—through the degree programs in Communication Studies, Multimedia and Film Production, Multimedia Journalism, Public Relations, Theatre, and Professional Communication and Leadership—promote the critical analysis, evaluation, performance, and practice of human communication in its various contexts.
Job Summary
There are two Lecturer positions, both of which will report to the department chair.
- Position 1 will require the candidate to teach Multimedia Journalism and Public Speaking.
- Position 2 will require the candidate to teach all Public Speaking courses.
Both positions will require some service responsibilities, such as participating in department meetings and serving on committees. Both positions are academic (10 month) non-tenure track appointments.
Required Qualifications
Position 1:
- Earned Master's degree in Journalism, Communication, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Journalism by July 1, 2026.
- Ability to teach broadcast journalism news gathering skills in reporting and video production
- Ability to teach Public Speaking to an audience of students from various majors and interests.
- Ability to teach newscast production duties in line producing, on-air presentation, and reporting
- Ability to teach the use of professional camcorders, handheld and wireless microphones, tripods; video editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro; news content management systems
- Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
- Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Position 2:
- Earned Master's degree in Communication or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Communication by July 1, 2026.
- Ability to teach Public Speaking to an audience of students from various majors and interests.
- Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
- Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring and curriculum design and development.
Preferred Qualifications, Position 2:
- Experience teaching Public Speaking online (synchronously or asynchronously)
- Experience with institutional assessment of the Public Speaking course
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
