Job Description:

The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Salve Regina University invites applications for a full-time lecturer position to teach a 4:4 course load to begin in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate introductory and special topics courses and support the Psychology of Crime Minor curriculum development. High need for teaching Principles of Correctional Operations, Introduction to Forensic Psychology, Psychology of Crime and Victimization, Punishment and Treatment of Juvenile Offenders, Psychology of Threat and special topics in their areas of expertise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach undergraduate criminal justice courses in the areas of corrections/supervision and Psychology of Crime minor.
  • Additional teaching opportunities will be in collaboration with the Psychology Department as needed.
  • Qualified applicants must be committed to student learning and encouraging engaged scholars.
  • Teach assigned classes in keeping with approved syllabi, outlines, and instructional materials.
  • Support and encourage student internship interests.
  • Advise undergraduate students.
  • Participate in service at the university, local, and national levels.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Criminal Justice, Forensic Psychology, Applied Psychology, or a closely related field (Ph.D. or equivalent) in hand by the start of appointment (Fall 2026).
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate level in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or Psychology-related disciplines.
  • Ability to teach a range of undergraduate courses, including Principles of Correctional Operations, Psychology of Crime and Victimization, Punishment and Treatment of Juvenile Offenders, and related topics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to student learning and academic success.
  • Commitment to the mission of a Catholic university in the Mercy tradition, including values of social justice, service, and ethical leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical or professional experience in criminal justice or forensic psychology settings, such as correctional systems, law enforcement, counseling, or rehabilitation programs.
  • Experience teaching or developing interdisciplinary courses in collaboration with Psychology or related departments.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising student research or internships in criminal justice or psychology fields.
  • Familiarity with current trends, best practices, and ethical standards in both criminal justice and forensic psychology.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage students through experiential learning, simulations, case studies, or applied research projects.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and service.
  • Evidence of continued professional development or scholarship relevant to criminal justice or forensic psychology.
