Lecturer - Data Science - School of Information
Position Overview
The School of Information at the University of California, Berkeley, invites applications for a pool of part-time, non-tenure track lecturers to teach online courses in the Master of Information and Data Science (MIDS) program. We seek exceptional instructors with professional and/or academic expertise who can lead small, highly interactive sections of around 15 graduate students in this innovative, online program.
Courses in the MIDS program are pre-designed and structured, allowing instructors to focus on delivering dynamic and engaging learning experiences while providing valuable expertise to enhance student outcomes.

I School scholars thrive at the intersections of people, organizations, and societies with information, technology, and data. Faculty come from diverse disciplines including information, computer science, economics, political science, law, sociology, and design.
The I School offers professional master’s degrees and an academic doctoral degree, including MIMS, MIDS, MICS, and Ph.D. programs, emphasizing small classes, project-based learning, and collaboration.
Responsibilities Include
Delivering engaging online classes: Plan and lead synchronous online sessions focusing on active learning, facilitate discussions, and collaborative activities.
Facilitating student-centered learning: Provide personalized support through virtual office hours and moderating discussions.
Designing and refining course materials: Develop and update materials, assignments, and assessments to align with program objectives.
Providing constructive feedback: Deliver timely feedback on assignments to promote student growth.
Maintaining course operations: Use learning management systems for course management.
Collaborating with faculty teams: Participate in meetings to align practices and share strategies.
Promoting inclusion: Foster an inclusive learning environment that respects diverse perspectives.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Additional qualifications: Minimum 4 years professional experience in the relevant field and 2 years teaching experience in higher education or professional development.
Preferred qualifications: An advanced degree in Data Science or related fields, 10+ years professional experience, excellence in teaching, and expertise in areas like Applied Machine Learning and Data Visualization.
