The Department of Philosophy at Lingnan University is one of the best in Asia. Faculty members publish in leading journals in the field, such as Analysis, Australasian Journal of Philosophy, British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, Ethics, Journal of Philosophical Logic, Mind, Noû s, Philosophers’ Imprint, Philosophical Quarterly, Philosophical Studies, Philosophy and Phenomenological Research, and Philosophy of Science. The department has a thriving PhD programme and also hosts several Postdoctoral Fellows/Research Assistant Professors.

Requirements

Applicants should hold a Master's degree or above in Philosophy by the time of appointment.

Teaching:

The appointee will (i) teach Philosophy courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, (ii) supervise undergraduate and/or postgraduate final projects, and (iii) contribute to service and development of the Department. The appointee will have a standard teaching load of ten courses per year (30 hours per year), distributed according to the needs of the Department and upon mutual agreement. English will be the language of instruction. If necessary, the appointee might be required to supervise students’ capstone projects.

Service:

The appointee will perform administrative duties as assigned by the Head of the Department, if any.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Commencing salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee. Appointments will normally be made on a contract basis for up to two years. The commencement date is no later than August 2026.

Candidates with less/more experience will also be considered for appointment at a relevant rank.
