The Opportunity:

The School of Sciences & Humanities at Wentworth Institute of Technology seeks applications for a full-time Economics Lecturer. This is a teaching-focused position centered on undergraduate instruction and student success. The successful candidate will teach core economics courses, including Principles of Economics, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics, as well as occasional electives.

Wentworth is a teaching-focused polytechnic university serving a diverse, career-oriented student population. We are seeking a colleague with proven teaching competence and a strong record of working effectively with students in settings similar to ours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach 4 courses (16 credits) per semester
  • Teach core courses including Principles of Economics, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics
  • Contribute to elective offerings in economics based on program needs
  • Deliver engaging instruction using interactive and applied teaching approaches, including interactive games, simulations, and case studies
  • Provide timely feedback, regular office hours, and strong support for student learning
  • Collaborate with faculty on course coordination and curricular alignment

This is a teaching-focused position and does not include expectations for research or traditional service.

What We Are Looking For:

Proven teaching effectiveness.
You have a sustained record of effective undergraduate economics teaching and can provide clear evidence of that effectiveness.

Relevant institutional experience.
You have taught in an environment similar to Wentworth, including teaching-focused, polytechnic, access-oriented, or career-oriented institutions.

Core course competence.
You have demonstrated success teaching Principles of Economics, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics and can present foundational concepts clearly and effectively.

Interactive and applied pedagogy.
You use engaging teaching approaches such as:

  • games and simulations
  • case studies
  • applied, real-world problem solving

You can explain how these approaches support student learning.

Real-world economic relevance.
You connect economics to contemporary issues such as tariffs, public debt, banking systems, and economic policy in ways that resonate with undergraduate students.

Student-centered instruction.
You can explain complex material clearly, support students with varied preparation levels, and create a structured and inclusive classroom environment.

Mission alignment.
You value undergraduate teaching, applied learning, and the role of economics within a polytechnic education.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • PhD in Economics or a closely related field, completed at time of application. ABD candidates will not be considered
  • At least two years of experience teaching undergraduate economics
  • Experience teaching at an institution serving a student population similar to Wentworth
  • Demonstrated experience teaching Principles of Economics, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics
  • Evidence of effective teaching, such as student evaluations, peer observations, sample materials, or similar documentation
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the time of hire. Wentworth does not sponsor work visas for this position

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching applied or policy-oriented topics such as trade, tariffs, banking, or public finance
  • Demonstrated use of games, simulations, or case-based teaching
  • Experience supporting students with varied academic preparation
  • Experience teaching in interdisciplinary or applied programs

Position Details:

The position includes a comprehensive benefits package and a competitive salary. Benefits are described here: https://wit.edu/careers/work-wentworth

It is expected that the salary range for this position is between $70,000 and $81,600. The low end of the pay range reflects the minimum salary for the rank per the collective bargaining agreement between Wentworth Institute of Technology and the Wentworth Faculty Federation, Local 2403, AFT MA, AFL-CIO. The specific salary will be determined based on relevant factors at the time of offer.

This position includes a 10% retirement contribution (no matching required) according to the current collective bargaining agreement.

Wentworth operates on a three-semester schedule. Faculty contracts cover fall and spring semesters, with optional summer teaching compensated separately. Total annual compensation may increase based on summer teaching availability.

Any final offer is contingent on providing valid I-9 documentation demonstrating work authorization and identity.
