Shape the Future of Economic Thinking at a Triple-Accredited Business School

We are excited to invite applications for Lecturer positions in Economics, with a particular focus on Economic History, Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. This opportunity sits within the Department of Finance and Economics - part of a globally elite, triple-accredited business school, and recognised as Modern University of the Year 2026 by the Good University Guide.

About Us
Our department is one of the largest and most vibrant in the UK, with over 2,000 students and more than 75 academic staff. Our triple accreditation places us in the top 1% of business schools worldwide - a mark of excellence in both education and research.

We are currently focused on:

  • Delivering a refreshed portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Expanding into emerging and interdisciplinary areas aligned with our strategic priorities.
  • Innovating in Learning, Teaching and Assessment to meet the evolving needs of students and employers (including the integration of AI and the development of future-facing skills).

Who We're Looking For
We are seeking enthusiastic and forward-thinking academics who bring subject expertise, creativity, and a collaborative mindset. You will:

  • Have a strong academic background in Economics, with expertise in Economic History, Macroeconomics, or closely related areas.
  • Hold a PhD or have relevant industry/academic experience that contributes to a cutting-edge economics portfolio that will support students into excellent graduate outcomes.
  • Be able to demonstrate experience in curriculum development or pedagogical innovation, particularly in ways that engage students with historical and contemporary economic challenges.
  • Be committed to developing your external profile and contributing to the wider academic and professional community.

Why Join Us?
You'll be part of a dynamic, fast-paced department that places student success and graduate outcomes at the heart of everything we do. Collaboration is central to our culture, within the department and across the Business School, providing you with the opportunity to contribute to energetic and expert teams.

If you're passionate about shaping the next generation of economists and contributing to a department that values innovation, impact, and excellence, we'd love to hear from you.

Please feel free to send any informal enquiries to Anna Egan (Head of Department) via a.egan@mmu.ac.uk.

Formal applications should be submitted via our recruitment portal. Please submit a CV and Cover Letter only. The cover letter should be no more than 300 words in length.

Successful candidates will be invited to do the following:

  • Take part in an interview with members of the department's senior leadership team.
  • Deliver a 15 min presentation (with an additional 10 min Q&A time) to members of the department on a topic of the department's choosing.
