Lecturers - Department of English University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign

The Department of English at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, anticipates a limited number of full-time, non-tenure-track 9-month Lecturer positions to teach first-year composition and/or business and technical writing courses during the 2025-2026 academic year, with the possibility of teaching creative writing and/or literary studies in future years to meet departmental needs. These positions are one-year appointments and covered by a collective bargaining agreement; renewal of the position is possible and contingent on availability of funding, strong enrollments, and strong performance reviews.

Responsibilities include teaching three classes per semester, in-person on the Urbana-Champaign campus. This search is also hiring applicants to teach as visiting faculty in Haining, China, through a partnership with the Zhejiang University-University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Institute (ZJUI). Please indicate your interest in this opportunity in your cover letter and contact kmcduff@illinois.edu for more details.

All candidates are required to have a PhD degree in English (or other relevant field) or an MFA in Creative Writing, plus a minimum of two years' teaching experience at the college level. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate excellence in teaching writing at the college level.

Strong candidates will articulate teaching philosophies and practices grounded in currently accepted disciplinary best practices; provide detailed examples to demonstrate conscientious, student-centered teaching methods; and provide specific examples of how they emphasize equity, access and inclusion in their classrooms by supporting diverse student populations.
