APPOINTMENT DATES: August 17, 2026 to December 30, 2026
The Department of English, Philosophy, and Communication Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University, is seeking to hire two part-time Instructional Academic Staff instructors to teach on-campus sections in the first-year composition program starting fall 2026. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
The Department of English, Philosophy, and Communication Studies seeks colleagues to teach in the first-year composition (FYC) program in a collegial department that values collaboration. The FYC program offers five courses from Basic Writing to Honors English. The program serves 2,500 to 3,000 students a year, and it emphasizes a genre-based, applied approach in which students learn to write for a variety of audiences and rhetorical situations.
Adjunct instructors will attend department meetings as requested, are expected to participate in FYC professional development and assessment, and are encouraged to join departmental governance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum/Required
- Master’s degree in Rhetoric and Composition, English, Creative Writing or a related field.
Highly Desired/Preferred
- Minimum of one-year experience teaching college-level composition and record of successfully teaching college-level composition.
- Experience with teaching composition in a technology-rich environment, including familiarity with online course delivery systems, is desirable, as UW-Stout is a laptop campus.
