Position Summary and Key Responsibilities
McKendree University seeks a lecturer (non-tenure track) in the School of Education. The lecturer will report to the School of Education and will teach both foundational and methods education courses as well as English Composition courses in the College of Arts and Science, English Department. A lecturer in this position will play a vital role in engaging freshman and sophomore students as well as preparing future educators. The candidate must have experience teaching college-level English Composition or other relevant experience The ideal candidate will bring a passion for teaching, a deep understanding of educational methodologies, and a strong background as a K-12 teacher.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver engaging curriculum for methodology courses in various subject areas
- Facilitate meaningful classroom discussions, group activities, and hands-on teaching experiences to develop students' pedagogical skills
- Foster a positive and engaging learning environment that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and effective teaching strategies
- Provide constructive feedback, guidance, and mentorship to aspiring educators to enhance their teaching skills
- Stay current with best practices in K-12 education and adapt instructional methods accordingly
- Supervise students in the field during student teaching
- In collaboration with the English faculty, implement university-level composition goals and best practices
- Design engaging university-level composition assignments that foster process writing, critical thinking, and information literacy.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Master's or doctorate in Education and/or English or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of K-12 teaching experience in a public or private school setting
- Experience teaching English Composition at the college/university level (or other relevant experience)
- Familiarity with various writing assessment methodologies and proficiency in writing assessment and curriculum development
- A strong understanding of various teaching methodologies across different subject areas
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Demonstrated commitment to responsive teaching practices in education
- Familiarity with educational technology and its integration into the curriculum
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive academic community
- A passion for teaching and a dedication to shaping the next generation of educators
