You will join the active and vibrant flooding research community in the Energy and Environment Institute. The Institute, established in 2016, brings together leading academics to tackle global issues surrounding climate change and its consequences on livelihoods. We are looking for an exceptional career researcher with an emerging track record in environmental fluid dynamics, you will have expertise in numerical/computational modelling relating to water flows in the environment. Your research interests will relate to rivers, estuaries, coasts or hydrology and/or adaptation to the consequences of climate change on water in the environment.

You will contribute to Masters level teaching programme on our MSc in Flood Risk Management and take responsibility for developing teaching that builds the skills and competencies of students to meet the needs of a resilient society. You will work closely with colleagues in Energy and Environment Institute and external partners to develop the teaching programme and grow a strong research portfolio. Working collaboratively, you will have a strong commitment to be at the forefront of your academic field.

You will have access to an unrivalled portfolio of resources, including the Viper HPC facility and an exceptional range of physical modelling facilities that includes: the Total Environment Simulator (16m x 10m x 1.8m with waves up to 30cm, flows of 100 litres per second and rainfall simulation); the Cohen flume (12m x 0.5m x 0.5m with recirculating sediments (up to gravel size), waves and temperature/light control); the Stratified Flow Flume (10m x 0.2m x 0.2m with flow and temperature gradient control) and the Coriolis flume (1 m diameter with rotation up to 1 rev per second). In addition, we host the unique SuDSlab facility (www.sudslab.co.uk) collecting a wide range of data from drainage systems in urban environments. We are looking for a candidate with enthusiasm to capitalise on this exceptional array of facilities to build their research portfolio.
