Lecturer in Food and Agriculture
We are seeking a Lecturer in Food and Agriculture to contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching and research within our undergraduate and postgraduate programs. This role will focus on food science, processing, safety, and innovation, supporting curriculum design, laboratory learning, and applied research that addresses critical challenges such as food security, sustainable production, and industry innovation.
The successful candidate will bring demonstrated expertise in food science and technology, a commitment to teaching excellence, and a strong research profile. They will play a key role in UniSC’s academic engagement within the Food and Agribusiness/Turbine Precinct in Caloundra, including supporting the activation of UniSC’s R&D laboratory, fostering translational research, and strengthening industry collaborations.
You will:
- deliver and develop evidence-based teaching in food science and technology, including practical and laboratory components;
- undertake and publish research advancing knowledge in food science aligned with UniSC’s strategic priorities;
- engage with industry partners to initiate and deliver applied research projects and foster collaboration; and
- support curriculum development, course coordination, and student supervision to enhance student learning outcomes.
You are dedicated to advancing food science education through innovative, evidence-based teaching that equips students with the practical skills and deep knowledge needed to tackle today’s complex food system challenges. You design and lead engaging curricula that integrate cutting-edge research and industry best practices, inspiring students to become future leaders in food innovation and sustainability.
Committed to impactful research, you pursue collaborative projects that bridge academia and industry, contributing to regional and global food security and resilience. Beyond teaching and research, you actively foster strong partnerships with industry, government, and community stakeholders, creating meaningful opportunities that benefit students and support regional development. You will possess:
- Completion or near completion of a doctoral qualification in food science, technology, or a related discipline;
- Demonstrated effectiveness as a teacher, supported by student feedback and peer review;
- Evidence of research capability including publications, grant involvement, and supervision of research students;
- Membership and strong connections with relevant professional bodies and industry networks; and
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a commitment to ongoing professional development and academic leadership.
Desirable:
- Experience in academic administration, such as course coordination;
- Expertise in food processing and ingredient innovation, with hands-on experience in pilot-scale technologies and R&D facility activation;
- Track record in industry-facing translational research addressing challenges in product development, sustainability, and commercialisation; and
- Technical expertise across diverse food sectors (e.g., horticulture, thermal processing, seafood, grains), with experience translating sectoral needs into collaborative research initiatives.
