Job Description:
The Department of Music at Binghamton University (State University of New York) offers graduate and undergraduate degrees, including the Master of Music degree with emphasis in Collaborative Piano, Composition, Conducting, History & Literature, Instrumental Performance, and Vocal Performance; the Master of Music in Opera, the Bachelor of Music in Performance, and the Bachelor of Arts in Music. The department also serves students from all majors across the university as part of Harpur College of Arts and Sciences.
We invite applications for a Lecturer in Musicianship position to commence in the Fall 2026 semester. We seek applicants with a demonstrated record of excellence in the classroom to teach our undergraduate courses in musicianship (aural skills, sight reading, keyboard skills) and music fundamentals, and to coordinate graduate assistants for these courses. This is a full-time position (non-tenure track) for a term of up to three years, with the possibility of renewal.
The Music Department has a strong commitment to hearing and amplifying the voices of those who have been historically excluded in musical practices and pedagogy. Members of historically excluded groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Doctorate (PhD or DMA) or ABD status by August 17, 2026
- Experience as instructor-of-record teaching aural skills, sight reading and keyboard skills at the undergraduate level
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate (PhD or DMA) awarded by August 17, 2026
- Experience with planning an undergraduate musicianship curriculum
- Experience with current research and approaches in the pedagogy of music theory and musicianship
- Experience building musicianship skills in a variety of musical styles and genres
