Job Summary:
The Department of Social Science, History, and Criminal Justice seeks a Sociology lecturer to teach a range of classes for the Health and Society track of the new Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences degree program. While the candidate should be available to teach on both of our New Jersey campuses, we envision this person teaching primarily on our Metropolitan campus in Teaneck, New Jersey. We primarily seek candidates with expertise in Medical Sociology and/or Public Health. Preferred qualifications include being able to contribute to the Environmental Studies track of the BA Social Sciences degree program. In addition to teaching 4 courses per semester, the lecturer will actively contribute to the department and university communities and facilitate connections between students and healthcare practitioners, firms, and organizations.
The lecturer reports to the Chair/Program Coordinator of the program, who will determine course assignments each semester in consultation with the lecturer. Courses will be assigned on both the Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck and the Florham Campus in Florham Park.
Required Qualifications:
Job Duties:
- Teach four courses per semester (8 per year)
- Attend department meetings
- Attend Becton College faculty meetings
- Special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or ABD status in Sociology or closely related fields with a specialization in Medical Sociology or Public Health.
- Prior college-level teaching experience
- Demonstrated ability to mentor students both in their academic career and in their professional development.
Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
