Lecturer in Sociology

We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as a Lecturer in Sociology (Teaching and Scholarship). This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the Department of Sociology, School of Social Sciences. You will join a dynamic and inclusive academic environment with a strong commitment to student-centred learning, equality and social responsibility.

This is a fixed-term post for 48 months, starting 1st October 2026, available at Grade 6.5 only.

You will be responsible for:

  • Delivering high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Sociology
  • Convening SOCY10402 Inequalities in Contemporary British Society
  • Contributing to teaching on race, ethnicity, intersecting inequalities and qualitative research methods
  • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and providing academic advising
  • Undertaking appropriate administrative, academic service and pastoral duties

About you

We encourage applications from individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. You should demonstrate:

Essential criteria

  • A completed PhD (or equivalent) in Sociology or a cognate discipline
  • Demonstrable expertise in the sociology of race and ethnicity and intersecting inequalities
  • Ability to teach qualitative sociological research methods at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Experience delivering high-quality, research-informed teaching in Sociology
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to the student experience

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience convening undergraduate and/or postgraduate course units
  • Experience supervising undergraduate and/or postgraduate dissertations
