Lecturer of French

The Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a full-time lecturer of French to begin August 16, 2026. This position is benefit eligible. The successful candidate will be able to teach all levels of French language as well as occasional English-language courses in our Intercultural Studies program. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable experience in second language acquisition or languages for the professions. Candidates’ application materials should provide evidence of the candidate’s ability to contribute to a multi-language department that values a variety of perspectives. The teaching load for this position is 30 credits per year (approximately equivalent to a 5-5 load).
Required qualifications:
- Master’s degree in French, French and Francophone Studies, or a closely related field;
- Experience teaching language and culture courses to students from a broad range of majors at a US institution of higher education; and
- near-native fluency in French and English. Evidence of proficiency in teaching with technology.
Preferred qualifications:
- PhD is French, French and Francophone Studies, or a closely related field.
- Evidence of exceptional teaching.
- Evidence of interest in ongoing professional development.
- Demonstrate background/experience in second language acquisition or languages for the professions.

Job Duties
- Teaches students in the classroom and/or laboratory. Prepares each course and/or lab assigned). Communicates to students after reviewing assignments. Tracks and reports absences during the designated period as directed by the Office of the Registrar. Calculates and assigns grades (midterm and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty Manual and University Catalog.
- Posts and holds office hours per College guidelines.
- Conducts research to create and add to knowledge in a field, including the advancement of new theories and principles to improve educational effectiveness.
- Engages in University-related activities including committee assignments, meetings and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual.
- Performs other departmental needs as assigned.
