0.6 FTE / 21 Hours per week; The starting salary will be from £22,949.40, pro rata of £38,249.00 per annum (grade 7), depending on qualifications and experience.
During the two academic semesters, the role will be mostly based on site at Marjon across Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Outside of the semesters, the role can be a hybrid role (i.e., partly on site, partly from home).
We are looking for a Lecturer to join our passionate and committed programme team to teach across all 4 years of our Master of Psychotherapy and Counselling integrated master’s degree: Integrated Master’s in Psychotherapy and Counselling
We appreciate that excellent lecturers in psychotherapy and counselling come from various backgrounds and bring different experiences to the classroom. Typically, the post holder will be a Registered or Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or equivalent protected register (e.g., National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society). They will be an experienced practitioner who has remained up to date with the profession and is currently or recently practicing, and they will value the role of research in psychotherapy and counselling training. They will care about nurturing and supporting the professional training of counsellors so that these counsellors can work safely, ethically, and effectively in meaningful careers.
You’ll have a meaningful and varied role supporting the academic and professional development of counselling students, working alongside a team of passionate and committed lecturers. We teach through a combination of lectures, seminars, and skills work (e.g., ‘triads’). You would lead lectures that reflect your stronger areas of expertise, oversee the delivery of core modules, and work as part of a team to support triads and other skills work and group work. You would also assess student work and be a personal tutor to a group of students. You might conduct research, supervise dissertation students, lead course admissions interviews, and represent the course (e.g., at open days).
For an informal discussion about the role please email Dr Alister McCormick (amccormick@marjon.ac.uk), Dr Anne Bentley (abentley@marjon.ac.uk), and Dr Lucy Cooper (lcooper@marjon.ac.uk).
We recognise that our recruitment might bring in staff who are new to higher education and are bringing knowledge and expertise from other fields and practice. We want to ensure that all our academic staff are appropriately qualified to teach in HE and have the confidence to do so; to support this, we offer a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) to all new teaching staff without an existing teaching qualification.
