Grossmont College is hiring a Career Counselor to assist students in their pursuit of personal, educational and career goals by providing career counseling, academic advising, and career development services. The primary focus of this position is to deliver career counseling and job search services that help students and alumni make informed career decisions, gain career-related experience, prepare for an effective job search and obtain professional employment upon graduation. This position also requires the ability to teach career-related courses, create and conduct career related workshops per the needs of students, staff, and faculty, and serve as liaison to faculty colleagues, develop presentations, and present in their classrooms.
The Career Counselor will:
- Identify, administer, and interpret appropriate assessment instruments and counseling techniques for individual students/alumni
- Assist with event planning, promotion, coordination, and delivery of Career Services recruitment services such as an on-line job listing service, career fairs, on campus interviews, resume referrals and special career events
- Collaborate with colleagues across all divisions, local employers, and other potential partners
- Serve as a liaison to district high schools, local community, businesses, other community college Career Centers, and any related workforce development associations
- Provide leadership for special services and programs for targeted student groups
- Participate in committee assignments and other academic and institutional support activities

Starting Salary Range: $77,615 (Class II, Step 6) - $107,156 (VII, Step 10) Annually for an 11-month contract

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent.
(NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)
Applicants must demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of community college students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds as well as students with disabilities.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Experience providing career or academic counseling services within higher education or workforce development settings. Training and experience working with individuals and groups in providing personal and crisis counseling. Experience advising students. Ability to use technology in providing counseling services. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with strong communication, listening, facilitation, and intercultural skills. Experience teaching career planning, college success and other personal development courses at the post-secondary level. Commitment to serving a diverse student population with varying life experiences, educational backgrounds, and learning needs. Ability to use current labor market data to explain occupational trends, wages, and regional workforce needs, and to integrate these insights into workshops, class presentations, and individual counseling. Demonstrated knowledge of career development theory, assessment tools and interpretation, career readiness competencies, and job search methodologies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience using labor market research to guide student career decisions. Experience creating or teaching career exploration activities or courses. Experience supporting first-generation, adult learners, nontraditional students, and historically marginalized populations. Experience developing community and employer partnerships or work-based learning programs. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and or Arabic.
