About the Role
We are seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Disaster Resilience Infrastructure to play a key role in teaching excellence, impactful research, and academic leadership within the School of Engineering.
This role is well-suited to an academic who is passionate about infrastructure resilience, climate adaptation, and natural hazard mitigation, and who values collaboration, mentoring, and real-world impact.
You will contribute to and lead high-quality research aligned with the School’s priority areas, including:
Infrastructure resilience assessment, prediction and management
Natural hazards (floods and geohazards)
Climate change adaptation and mitigation
You will also embed your research expertise into teaching programs, supervise HDR candidates, and build strong research partnerships across RMIT and with national and international collaborators.
Depending on experience, the role may include program leadership or management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching & Education
Design, deliver and continuously improve engaging, inclusive and student-centred teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programs
Design and moderate assessment and integrate feedback from course evaluation and student outcomes
Contribute to curriculum innovation and quality assurance
Research & Leadership
Lead and contribute to high-quality, nationally recognised research programs
Build and mentor collaborative research teams
Secure competitive external research funding
Publish research outputs in high-quality outlets
Supervise Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates
Service & Engagement
Contribute to School, College and University governance and strategy
Provide academic leadership and mentoring to early-career colleagues
Manage academic programs or portfolios as required
About You
You will bring a strong combination of technical expertise, academic leadership and collaborative capability, along with a commitment to inclusive education and research impact.
Core capabilities (both levels)
You will demonstrate:
Expertise in infrastructure resilience relating to floods, geohazards and climate change
Experience teaching and coordinating undergraduate and postgraduate programs
Ability to coordinate courses and implement student-centred learning approaches
Experience supervising HDR candidates
Understanding of governance, quality and financial management in a university environment
Strong interpersonal, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Additional expectations for Senior Lecturer (Level C):
Nationally recognised research profile
Track record of leading research teams
Demonstrated success securing competitive external funding
Experience mentoring academic staff and managing programs or portfolios
Qualifications
Mandatory: PhD in Civil Engineering
Eligibility Requirements: Suitably qualified women, gender diverse or indigenous candidates
