The Role

We are recruiting to the role of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Art Psychotherapy to join our expanding team in the School of Psychology. The School of Psychology’s vision is to offer transformative, future focused, digitally enhanced education that helps students become successful individuals with rewarding careers, regardless of their background and circumstances. The School is committed to delivering outstanding student outcomes and making a positive impact on society through its world-leading research and its community-based knowledge exchange. We offer a wide variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and one of the most comprehensive and well-respected suites of therapy training programmes in the UK.

Our staff’s expertise spans experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience, counselling psychology, psychotherapy and arts and play therapies. Our multidisciplinary research seeks to improve the understanding of factors that influence mental health and wellbeing and to develop strategies and interventions to improve them. Our researchers produce impactful outcomes with real world applications that support local, national and global communities. Our work enhances and saves lives, supports the regeneration of the world around us and shapes government policy that touches on every impact of society.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Playing a significant part in teaching our MA Art Psychotherapy programme, as well as contributing to other areas of our core curriculum and education delivery.
  • Have the capacity to contribute to Programme Leadership in the MA Art Psychotherapy programme, or other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as required.
  • Contributing to and enhancing the teaching and learning, research and knowledge exchange reputation of the School of Psychology.
  • Become part of a thriving community of academics, practicing psychologists and psychotherapists in the School.

The successful candidate will have skills and experience in

  • A Practitioner in Art Psychotherapy with experience of teaching on similar programmes.
  • An ambitious academic with a bold vision who can deliver excellence in the field of Art Psychotherapy.
  • Passionate about enhancing the teaching and learning of students and enthusiastic about student-centred pedagogy.
  • Able to lead and support an academic team and contribute to the continued success and development of our School’s expansive portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including the Arts & Play Therapies and Psychotherapy programmes.
