Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The qualified candidate is expected to focus on the broad area of sports analytics, including, but not limited to, evaluation of team performance, estimation of player contribution, in-game strategy, human performance, wearable technology, and/or data-driven decision making within sports. The primary role of this position includes teaching undergraduate courses in Sports Analytics and Data Science as assigned, mentoring student internships, independent studies, and scholarly projects, and participating in course/curriculum development and improvement.
Scholarly Research, Creative and Other Professional Activities – faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly activities related to sports analytics education and continuously explore innovative technologies and pedagogical approaches to enhance student engagement and success.
Applicants must be committed to teaching undergraduate Sports Analytics program courses, including those involving computer programming, and be actively involved in mentoring student-driven scholarship.
Minimum Experience / Education:
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
Lecturer/Sr. Lecturer
Master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Kinesiology, or related discipline. Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the collegiate level, and commitment to student success.
Teaching Assistant Professor:
Ph.D. degree in Statistics, Data Science, Kinesiology, or related discipline. Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the collegiate level, and commitment to student success. Evidence of leadership in instruction and instructional innovation.
Candidates who have completed all requirements except the dissertation will be considered with proof of a defense date by June 30, 2026.
Evidence of a record of collaboration within the sports analytics industry is desirable for both.
