Lecturer - Washington Programs

The John Glenn College of Public Affairs is seeking a lecturer to teach graduate and undergraduate students in the Washington Academic Internship Program (WAIP) and/or Master of Public Administration Washington DC (MPA-DC). Course assignments may include PUBAFRS 4020: Contemporary Issues in Governance, PUBAFRS 4021: Research Paper, PUBAFRS 7600: Federal Policy and Management, and/or PUBAFRS 7980: MPA-DC Capstone.

Courses are offered in-person in Washington, DC, one evening per week each semester.

Performance Objectives

  • Lecturing and teaching the material presented in the course syllabi in a professional and engaging way that helps students learn and encourages them to come to class regularly.
  • Assigning grades and assessing student progress, potential and achievement in concrete, understandable ways to ultimately help the student progress toward a degree.
  • Maintaining appropriate records in an organized, efficient manner for each class taught, and have this information prepared for students at all times.
  • Cultivating a desire to build relationships, finding solutions to problems and being helpful and friendly at all times.
  • Creating a classroom environment where students feel comfortable participating and learning.
  • Setting up assessments based on departmental regulations and requirements.
  • Preparing students for assessments and providing helpful performance feedback including recommending additional readings and providing advice to students.
  • Providing extra support to students who require it and scheduling consultation times where questions and concerns can be voiced.
  • Keeping up to date with advancements in the field and integrating new knowledge into lessons.
  • Answering students questions and providing timely feedback on assignments and essay drafts.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required:

  • Masters degree and/or graduate professional degree in a related field
  • Candidates must have experience working in or around the federal government.

Desired:

  • Candidates with teaching experience desired, which could be as a guest lecturer, teaching assistant, or training experience in industry such as training new employees or creating and presenting training sessions.

Master of Public Administration Washington, DC (MPA-DC)

The Master of Public Administration in Washington, DC (MPA-DC) is a graduate-level, cohort-based program that immerses students in the nations capital through a blend of advanced academic training and professional experience. Designed for early-career students, MPA-DC combines evening coursework in federal policy and management with full-time employment or internships across federal agencies, Capitol Hill, nonprofits, think tanks, and industry. The program emphasizes applied learning to equip students to lead and innovate in complex public sector environments.
